What to Wear for a Boudoir Photo Shoot When Lingerie Isn’t Your Thing
When people think about a boudoir photo shoot, they usually picture lingerie, lace, stockings and corsets. And yes, we love all of those things. But they’re absolutely not required.
Some of my favourite boudoir photographs have come from the simplest outfits because sexy isn’t really about what you’re wearing. It’s about how you feel wearing it.
Your boudoir shoot should actually feel like you
If you never wear lace in real life, you don’t suddenly have to become a lace-and-corset person for your photo shoot.
Maybe you’re more comfortable in an oversized pair of jeans and a simple white tank top.
Maybe it’s boxer shorts and a button-down shirt.
Maybe it’s your favourite team’s jersey with nothing complicated underneath.
Maybe it’s an old T-shirt, a leather jacket, a pair of heels—or even a popsicle on a hot summer day.
Those pieces can be every bit as sexy as traditional lingerie, especially when they feel authentic to you.
Simple can photograph beautifully
There’s something incredibly sexy about taking an ordinary piece of clothing and photographing it differently.
A white tank top can be soft and feminine or sexy and undone. Oversized jeans can feel very ‘90s editorial. A sports jersey can be playful. A men’s button-down can feel intimate without showing very much at all.
That’s one of the things I love about boudoir photography: sexy doesn’t have one uniform.
And you don’t necessarily need to show more skin to create a sexier photograph.
Don’t dress like somebody else’s version of sexy
When we plan a boudoir photo shoot at our Montreal studio, we’ll talk about what you actually like. Some clients want the corset, stockings and full glamour moment. Others want something casual, effortless and almost cinematic. And plenty want a little bit of both.
You can also use pieces that mean something to you—a partner’s shirt, your favourite team’s jersey, something vintage, or an item you’ve owned forever and feel amazing wearing.
We also have a studio wardrobe you can play with, so you don’t have to arrive with an entire photo shoot planned.
You don’t have to know before you walk in
If your biggest question is “What the hell would I even wear to a boudoir photo shoot?”, that’s completely normal.
You don’t need to figure it all out yourself.
Bring the things that make you feel like you—even if that’s a white tank top and a pair of jeans—and we’ll take it from there.
Because the goal isn’t to make you look like somebody else’s idea of a boudoir photo shoot.
