A Birthday Photo Shoot, But Make It Mafia Wife
There are birthday photo shoots… and then there are birthday photo shoots with lingerie, champagne and oysters.
When my client first told me she wanted to incorporate oysters into her birthday session, I was immediately excited. It was a first for the studio, and now I really hope it won’t be the last.
The idea was to keep part of the shoot simple and classic. A beautiful black dress. Lingerie. A birthday cake. Beautiful portraits that felt sexy, modern and timeless.
And then we went a little more mafia wife.
Champagne. Oysters. Lingerie. A little attitude. And honestly, it was perfect.
Birthday Photo Shoots Don’t Have to Feel Like “Birthday Photos”
One of my favourite things about photographing birthdays is that there really are no rules.
You don’t need balloons everywhere or a giant number announcing your age. Unless you want them, of course. A birthday photo shoot can be glamorous, sexy, funny, elegant, completely over the top.
For this session, we did exactly that. Some of the photographs are simple beauty portraits. Some are sexy. Some are playful. And some look like she married into a very questionable family and is now casually eating oysters in lingerie.
Which I absolutely love.
Celebrating a Milestone Birthday in Montreal
I photograph women celebrating all kinds of milestones at my Montreal studio—30th birthdays, 35th birthdays, 40th birthdays, 50th birthdays and everything in between.
And I think there is something really special about marking that moment with photographs.
Not because you need a reason to have beautiful photos of yourself.
But if you’ve been waiting for an excuse, a birthday is a pretty good one.
It can be about entering a new decade. Celebrating everything that happened in the last one. Doing something completely outside your comfort zone. Or simply deciding that this year, you want to do something for yourself.

This is probably the most important part for me.
I don’t want every birthday photo shoot I photograph to look the same.
We can start with a simple idea and build from there. Maybe you want classic Hollywood glamour. Maybe you want something dark and sexy. Maybe you want beautiful lingerie portraits. You can want cake, champagne, flowers, feathers and now oysters.
Your inspiration becomes the starting point, and then we create something specifically for you.
Hair and makeup, wardrobe, posing and the different sets are all part of the experience, so you don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose or exactly how everything is going to come together.
That’s my job. You just get to enjoy the experience.

I loved this session because it felt like her.
Beautiful without being too serious. Sexy without trying too hard. Classic with just enough ridiculousness to make it fun.
