Feeling Blah? 6 Ways to Feel Sexy Again

Sometimes you don’t feel bad.

You just feel a little… blah.

You’re going to work. You’re getting things done. Life is life. But somewhere between your routine, responsibilities, leggings and the same five outfits, that sexy, playful, glamorous side of you hasn’t been getting much attention.

And maybe you don’t need to burn everything and run away to Mexico.

Maybe you just need an excuse to play again.

As a boudoir and glamour photographer in Montreal, I meet so many women who tell me they haven’t felt sexy in years. Or that they’ll do something for themselves once they lose a few pounds, have more confidence or finally have a reason.

You don’t need a reason. Here are six ways to start getting your groove back.

1. Get Dressed Up — Even If You Have Nowhere to Go

Stop saving the good outfit. Wear the dress that’s a little too much. Pull out the heels. Put on the earrings you’ve been saving for an occasion.

You don’t need dinner reservations or somebody else’s invitation to look fabulous.

Sometimes simply seeing yourself dressed differently is enough to remind you, Oh. There she is.

2. Turn Up the Music

You know there’s a song that makes you move differently. Maybe even dance around your house like you did as a kid.

It’s time to urn up the volume. One of my favourite things during a boudoir or glamour photo shoot is when someone stops thinking about how she’s supposed to look sexy and starts moving, laughing and having fun.

That’s usually when the best photographs happen. Sexy doesn’t always have to be serious.

3. Do Something Different

Routine is comfortable. It’s also really easy to disappear into it.

Go somewhere new. Try the class. Order the cocktail. Wear something you normally wouldn’t. Say yes to an idea that’s a little outside your comfort zone.

Or finally try that completely over-the-top photo shoot concept you’ve had saved on Pinterest for three years.

You don’t need to change your entire life. Sometimes you just need to surprise yourself.

4. Stop Waiting to Lose Five Pounds

I hear this ALL the time:

“I’d love to do a boudoir photo shoot, but I want to lose a little weight first.”

Five pounds becomes ten. Next month becomes next year. And meanwhile, you’re putting off something you want because you’ve decided a future version of your body deserves it more than your current one.

Wear the lingerie now. Take the photograph now. Go on the trip now. Feel good now.

You don’t have to become smaller before you’re allowed to feel sexy.

5. Get  a Little Glam

Do your hair. Put on the lipstick. Wear the lingerie. Or take it considerably further. Big hair. Red lips. Crystals. Feathers. Gloves. Full Old Hollywood glamour. Why not?

That’s one of the things I love most about glamour photography. For a few hours, you have permission to be completely extra. You can explore a side of yourself that doesn’t necessarily come out while you’re answering emails, doing groceries or picking someone up from hockey practice.

And yes, you can get completely dressed up even if nobody else is going to see you.

Do it because you want to see her.

6. Finally Do the Thing You’ve Been Thinking About

Most of us have one. Something you’ve been quietly thinking about doing for months—or even years.

Maybe yours is travelling somewhere alone. Taking dance lessons. Cutting your hair. Wearing the dress.

And maybe it’s finally booking a boudoir or glamour photo shoot.

I can’t tell you how many women walk into my Montreal photography studio and tell me:

“I’ve wanted to do this forever.”

So why haven’t they?

They were waiting to feel ready.

Here’s the secret: you don’t necessarily become confident and then do the thing.

Sometimes you do the thing—and discover a completely different side of yourself along the way.

Your Version of Sexy Doesn’t Have to Look Like Anyone Else’s

Sexy can be black lingerie and heels.

But it can also be jeans and a white tank top. A glamorous black dress. Angel wings. A man’s shirt. Full burlesque feathers. Bare feet. Vintage Hollywood. Something dark and cinematic. Something ridiculous and playful.

That’s why every boudoir and glamour photo shoot I create is different.

We design the concept around you—your personality, your style, the side of yourself you want to explore and how you want to feel when you see the finished photographs.

You don’t have to know how to pose. You don’t have to be a model. And you definitely don’t have to walk through the door already feeling incredibly confident.

That’s part of the experience.

Maybe You Just Need Your Spark Back

Sometimes we think getting our groove back requires some enormous transformation.

It doesn’t. Dress up. Move. Play. Try something new. Let yourself be a little extra.

And stop waiting for some future version of yourself to have all the fun.
