Get in the Mood

[Even when you’re not feeling it]

Don’t you hate it when your plans don’t match what you’re feeling? You get into a fight with your partner, you’re hating work, you just want to ignore the world and binge on netflix.  It doesn’t matter how excited you originally were for your plans, you just no longer feel it and you want to hide from the world.  Been there, done that.  Here are some of my tried and true practices I use to get in the mood and give a boost to my groove.

Play that funky music

Depending on how low I am, I have different playlists that are sure fire cures to get me feeling myself.  When it comes to mood amplifying music, you need to accept whatever freaky tastes you have and totally indulge in them. After all, that’s why god invented headsets, so no else needs to know you like to listen to Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5 on repeat.  Here’s my go to Boudoir Playlist that is great for a photoshoot, prepping for a fun night out, or having a sexy night in.

Scrub it off

If you have the time, give your face a little exfoliating followed by some moisturizing love.  Washing my face always wakes me up and a quick exfoliation reminds me that I’m still alive.  It feels so good to remove the dead skin and have a fresh face to greet the world  – a natural glow ain’t bad either.

Stretch it out

Stretching does the body so much good.  While you’re loosening up your muscles, it’s allowing more blood to flow which in turn wakes you up.  It removes the stress from your body which will give you a boost of energy. I also like to shake my booty and dance around to loosen myself up.  All else fails, I’ll do some jumping jacks to get a rush of adrenaline – from personal experience, it helps keep my reputation as an energizer bunny intact.

Smile, darling!

Faking it until you make-it really works in this context.  There are many studies that prove just the act of smiling will relieve stress as well as release endorphins (natural pain relievers) and serotonin (associated with feel good properties). I try to smile on my way to every event because not only do I want all these awesome effects, I also want to loosen up my facial muscles.  If I smile in the car, my face is a lot more willing to smile when I see someone across the room. And who can resist a beautiful smile? Most people’s reactions will be to smile back at you and that is always a great start to a beautiful connection.

Each day does not have to be perfect, it is how we deal with each struggle that can make or break an experience. In fact, I want to go out on a limb and say something goes wrong with everyone of my favorite moments.  It could be the Libra in me that is always looking to find the balance, but I refuse to let a bad mood ruin plans.
