I’ve always wanted to play with smoke bombs, they always looked so cool in photos but I have to admit I was scared at the same time. I didn’t know how I was going to control the smoke, how fast I had to take the photos, if any good images would ever come out or would it just be a messy disaster. It’s a good thing I like challenges and just because I might be nervous about something, doesn’t mean I’m not going to try it.
The shoot went so much better than I could have ever expected in great part to my fabulous model and infamous burlesque star, Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière. I’ve been friends with Lou Lou for almost 15 years and we’ve built a certain trust in a photoshoot that only comes with years of working together. When I suggested using the witch’s hat, there wasn’t a moment of hesitation. We had a lot of laughs and screams when the smoke bomb first went off but then we realized there was absolutely nothing to worry about. Now I would not recommend everyone tries balancing 6 inch stilettos on top of a wood pile, but Lou Lou was fearless.
