Tropical vibes in montreal

Creating a story and a world is one of my favourite parts about working on a photoshoot concept. For this shoot, it was all about bringing the tropics to Montreal for a creative personal brand photshoot.

When Samantha Kris came to me with the idea of doing something tropical, I was both excited and nervous at the same time. Montreal in August is not known to have the most reliable weather and our plant life is the complete opposite of what you’d find on an island. But if you think that would stop me from creating this vision, you don’t know me at all. I was able to fake tropical foliage with faux leaves from Ikea and added a post-production filter to give the tropical feeling.

A few days before the shoot we looked at the weather and realized a storm was heading our way. We couldn’t reschedule the shoot but thankfully Sam trusted me and knew that no matter what the weather was, I would get the shot. The day of the shoot it was a little cloudy but the sun was still shining. About 5 minutes into getting the pool photos, the rain had started. Gentle at first, so I was still able to get a few photos, but then all hell broke loose and it was a full on storm. I never like to waste a good opportunity so we ran undercover and I had Sam pose half in the rain, half under a roof. The photos turned out so incredible and I’m so grateful the storm happened when it did. Ruby Valentine’s did such a great job on make-up and hair, that even though Sam was in the rain, her glam still looked fabulous. See more behind the scene photos at of this post.

Would you ever do a photoshoot in the rain?

xx Andrea
